get sauced

I am
and I have been making this for years
"gil's q shack's sweet heat"

made this batch for a rack of spare ribs
used it today for super burgers
works fine and dandy where ever you put it
plus it's a thousand times exponentially better than ketchup

well - I made this instead

deviled eggs

uppity mountain hippy headwear hatband

looks like a corner in a proshop
two of three iron sets I gave a go to this season

the old irons are unwilling to leave or be replaced
they're just too comfortable

that's just ridicurous...

this can only mean one thing...

more baking!

I don't know if I am excited by this or dreading it...
the good news is I'll only be doing a couple batches of cookies
maybe some deviled eggs...

during this latest baking binge we went through astronomical amounts of butter
"are you trying to turn us into a buncha fatasses sitting around on Christmas day?"

anyways, I've decided too that I will revert back to using labels
indexing just makes good sense to me
especially if I need to find something in the future...

texaz grill

way back when in 1985 a restaurant called lonestar steakhouse opened up
located in the corner of a strip mall in the former home of carlos o'brien's
a wildly popular and fun though mediocre mexican food joint
which moved on to bigger (better?  nah) digs

this means that I've been going to texaz grill for 26 years now
wow
the place has its kitschy charm no doubt
decorated in an all things texas scheme it is fun to browse all the memorabilia
juke box is well stocked w/ old school country honkytonkin' swing music

anyways once the national chain lonestar arrived in the valley a name change was forced
a contest was held and texaz grill declared the winner
a much better name if you ask me

as usual I start my meal w/ one of these

great stuff served in a little glass we call a jumbo back in wisconsin
I used to order a celis white but they stopped offering it...
shiner bock is a pleasant and suitable replacement

dining with us the lovely tanya tucker

this place is renowned for their chicken fried steaks and rightfully so
I challenge anyone to find better anywhere in town
might be able to chase down a better one in texas somewhere
I'm not sure

since we showed up for lunch
(again a relatively late one so the rush was over)
I opted to have the (surprise!) chicken fried steak

just look at the size of that thing!  fork tender as always
and also as always quite filling and satisfying

I only order this for lunch as you get TWO(!) if you order it for dinner
alas w/ no corn : - [
two of those monsters is just too much for one sitting though it does make for a viable leftover lunch option the next day

if I'm eating dinner (and it's available) I get the smoked prime rib
another best in town dish
the smokey tenderness is nearly impossible to describe
though it does distinguish it from all other prime ribs around

the lunch special on this day was a texas dip snad
presumably prepared from last night's leftover prime rib
anita wisely decided to get that...
she would normally order the cfs

good choice
it was wonderful
w/ steak fries au jus and bbq sauce
damn good shit

service as always is prompt friendly and welcoming
I cannot say enough about how good this place is
it's all good no great

texaz grill is located on the ne corner of bethany home and 16th street
get yo ass over there and get some

playoff post

I picked up this t-shirt Christmas evening during our white elephant gift exchange
I like everything about it - color - design and most of all the restaurant
it is a very busy little hole in the wall on 38th street and indian school
sliders are the signature dish I guess, but there is so much on the menu that I want to try
nevertheless I always end up grabbing a couple sliders and a chili cheese dog and a budweiser
they even have brats as a special twice a week and you  can't beat that w/ a stick

unfortunately  I no longer live nearby though my mom, brother and sister do...
anyways, if I could that's where I'd be getting my weekend football grub

segueing to...this weekend's playoff predictions
after perfectly picking last week's games, this round is a little tougher

toughest game of the week to pick and prolly play...
I see the steelers over the ravens, despite the ravens being one of my favorite teams
I'll be rooting for them, but all the intangibles point to pittsburgh

my big game of the week - packers over falcons
falcons barely won week 12 despite near perfection from ryan and >100 yds from turner
again, I enjoy watching the falcons play, but I'm afraid I bleed green and gold baby

bears over seahawks - the cinderella run is over
UNLESS...seachix d can get steady pressure on cutler and rattle his fragile mental constitution
forcing oh let's say four turnovers
which is actually something I'd rather enjoy seeing
we hate the bears

is anyone picking the jets over the patriots?
not me even though it means again picking against one of my favorite teams
I'd sure like to see LT go for >100, but I don't think sanchez quite has what it takes
and no one is better prepared for this kinda game than the patriots

back to food...
made chicken and dumplings last night

mise en place

finished dish
it was delightful and I'm fixing to have a bowl once I sign off hear...
