finally...it's back - twelve dollar tuesdaze (and thursdaze)

the question remains...

do I play or maintain my self imposed for the sake of my golf swing hiatus

bamboo putter shaft

this has been in the works for quite some time now

and it is finally finished...

putter head is a classic wilson 8802

ferrule is from an old beater bamboo rod

grip is hand formed cork
wraps are red and claret silk

it is for my brother

I don't wanna give it up

but I don't fancy that particular model of putter

and he does

don't make the stoo-pit rodmaker's mistake

like I did

'cept it wasn't on a rod

I'm building a putter shaft and cork grip for my brother

after hand fucking shaping the grip 

because the stoo-pit big ferrule wouldn't pass through my lathe

I couldn't chuck it up

so I shaped by hand w/ a rasp and file

after about a hundred hours I finally got it to where I wanted

and thought....

coat it in glue and roll it in the cork dust

don't do that

ever

I spent more time sanding that shit off the handle 

than it took me to cork shape and sand the damn thing

it's finally fine

though I learned a lesson

don't leave well enough alone

and those little dings and grooves in yer grip?

they ain't about shit

greens were rock hard and balls were skipping all over them

all four of us hit the green on number two - a short par three

I was fortunate enough to be to the right where there was an opening

a strong right to left wind made this green nearly impossible to hit

billy in the shit at silver creek

first off, I never thought I'd see the day I had ping irons in my bag...

pretty bridge near a golf course in show low

it was too freaky windy to fish silver creek so I passed on that

only to engage on a golf junket

hampered also by the wind but semi-manageable...

less so since I was doing battle w/ my irons and putter all week

why I have no idea, but it has been fun...

I have no intention of replacing what I'm playing 

whimsy strikes me at odd times though so no telling

after missing my second putt by about half a turn

not particularly a long hitter
but I was keeping w/in pacing distance of billy and big john
both of whom are L - O - N - G
it was fun and as usual in this silly fickle game
the swing was fairly solid
still needs work though
maybe saturday who knows?

resolutions

I don't make them

there are so many things that I could resolve to do

only to let myself down when I fail to follow through on any of them

so I don't bother

on the other hand I could make a handful of self-serving and indulgent ones

but that's contrary to the nature of the damn thing

of course I want to golf more and lower my handicap

(as if three rounds a week isn't enough)

or go out and fish more

who doesn't want that?

nevertheless I intend to do just those things

just without resolving to do so

thus revealing what a selfish and self-centered bastard I truly am

whoopsie!

I guess I just did that

I do want to continue to do whatever I can to help my friends and family

and gift a few lucky folks w/ a nice fishing pole

do what I can to become a better husband

a better cook

expand my palate and repertoire of techniques

fix one more meal a week

pleasing my wife coming home from work 

to a home cooked meal w/ the enticing aroma that entails

my walk w/ Christ is always a struggle

necessary as it is to my growth as a man and a Christian

forgiveness is in my nature

though my vices are always a battle

(if you know me you know what I'm talking about)

having said that 

I should smoke less drink less stop cussing work harder and more often

spend less exercise more make better choices and decisions

indulge the wife instead of myself

watch less football and golf on tv

do more to serve the Lord

and follow so many other paths to improve myself

yet to resolve to do so is to set myself up for failure

and I won't do that

but apparently I know what I need to do

brrr freezin'!

my wife snapped this shot shortly after I got home

from playing a cold cold cold round of golf

actual temp was low 40s

wind chill had to be low 30s

the cold wasn't too bad but the wind kicked my ass

the wind also caused my golf game to suffer

did I say suffer?  I meant suck

fun nonetheless and I can't think of a much better way to say goodbye to last year 

this year?

home course is closed for overseeding

it will be closed three daze and opening in four

which seem right short to me

most courses are closed ten daze to a month

and while a I realize the necessity of the practice

it is an inconvenience and contributes absolutely nothing

when trying to shave down a handicap

and the weather has finally cooled down enough to enjoy 18 holes in the afternoon

the nastiest(?) body of water in the state...
