get sauced

I am
and I have been making this for years
"gil's q shack's sweet heat"

made this batch for a rack of spare ribs
used it today for super burgers
works fine and dandy where ever you put it
plus it's a thousand times exponentially better than ketchup

on the eve of the superbowl or greenout day at the open

today's the greenout at the phoenix open golf tourney
I'm not there in person...
in spirit though?  you betcha

the past few years my brother has hosted a small super bowl/birthday party
this year chili and cornbread is on the menu
I was drafted to make the cornbread

jalapeno cornbread

oh yeah...giants over pats 24 - 17
though personally, I'd like to see both teams lose

well - I made this instead

deviled eggs

uppity mountain hippy headwear hatband

looks like a corner in a proshop
two of three iron sets I gave a go to this season

the old irons are unwilling to leave or be replaced
they're just too comfortable

that's just ridicurous...

this can only mean one thing...

more baking!

I don't know if I am excited by this or dreading it...
the good news is I'll only be doing a couple batches of cookies
maybe some deviled eggs...

during this latest baking binge we went through astronomical amounts of butter
"are you trying to turn us into a buncha fatasses sitting around on Christmas day?"

anyways, I've decided too that I will revert back to using labels
indexing just makes good sense to me
especially if I need to find something in the future...

rito's

this is the coolest restaurant I know of
not the best mind you, but the coolest
they do serve up what I consider to be the best meal in town
red or green chile burrito enchilada style
so fugging good I was a regular customer for about four years or so
stopping by every wednesday to endure the unbelievable line

yesterday I returned for the first time in over two years
manohman I missed this place...
what makes rito's so cool is there is no sign no advertising no dining room
just a kitchen a lobby (usually jam packed in a snaking line) loaded w/ anticipation
of the savory goodness soon to be delivered to yer hands
a patio courtyard w/ a smattering of picnic tables is yer only seating option

yer best off just taking yer food home or to work
especially in the summer

menu choices are rather limited
which is fine and dandy because if you order a burro yer golden

anyways, yesterday I stopped by w/ my mom for lunch

we arrived around 1pm  and there was no line!
apparently the lunch rush was over
I don't remember ever not standing in line before...

I ordered my standard red chile burro enchilada style
mom got green chile enchilada style
ten minutes later we sat down to the best got am burros in the valley
hell the whole country
I've never had better anywhere
I will be back and damned soon

you owe it to yerself to find out for yerself
unless you already know
if so, I'm merely preaching to the choir...

rito's is on the corner of 14th st and garfield

coming soon...

a culinary tour of the town
today we'll visit this place...
which is simply fuggin' awesome
I used to eat lunch there every wednesday
but it's been a couple of years since I've eaten there
that will be remdied today
you betcha

more to follow...

playoff post

I picked up this t-shirt Christmas evening during our white elephant gift exchange
I like everything about it - color - design and most of all the restaurant
it is a very busy little hole in the wall on 38th street and indian school
sliders are the signature dish I guess, but there is so much on the menu that I want to try
nevertheless I always end up grabbing a couple sliders and a chili cheese dog and a budweiser
they even have brats as a special twice a week and you  can't beat that w/ a stick

unfortunately  I no longer live nearby though my mom, brother and sister do...
anyways, if I could that's where I'd be getting my weekend football grub

segueing to...this weekend's playoff predictions
after perfectly picking last week's games, this round is a little tougher

toughest game of the week to pick and prolly play...
I see the steelers over the ravens, despite the ravens being one of my favorite teams
I'll be rooting for them, but all the intangibles point to pittsburgh

my big game of the week - packers over falcons
falcons barely won week 12 despite near perfection from ryan and >100 yds from turner
again, I enjoy watching the falcons play, but I'm afraid I bleed green and gold baby

bears over seahawks - the cinderella run is over
UNLESS...seachix d can get steady pressure on cutler and rattle his fragile mental constitution
forcing oh let's say four turnovers
which is actually something I'd rather enjoy seeing
we hate the bears

is anyone picking the jets over the patriots?
not me even though it means again picking against one of my favorite teams
I'd sure like to see LT go for >100, but I don't think sanchez quite has what it takes
and no one is better prepared for this kinda game than the patriots

back to food...
made chicken and dumplings last night

mise en place

finished dish
it was delightful and I'm fixing to have a bowl once I sign off hear...
