oftentimes it seems we take firefighters for granted
hotshot crews put their lives on the line daily
during the west's long wildfire season
sometimes the odds catch up with them
I've been heartsick since I've heard about this
prayers and condolences to all affected
monuments do not do justice to their sacrifice
though they do offer the rest of us memories of their heroic valor
